Th? hardest part of writing i? th? first sentence. W?en you lo?k at the whole project, ?t seems like an impossible task. That's why y?u have to bre?k it down into manag?able tasks. Think of cl?mbing a mountain. You ar? standing at the foot of it and looking u? at ?ts summit vanishing into the cl?uds. Ho? can you possibly scale such an ?mmense ?nd dangerous mountain?

There ?s only one way to cli?b a mountain. Step by step.

Now t?ink of writing your e-bo?k in the same light. You must create ?t step ?y step, and one day, yo? will take that last step and find yourself standing on the summit w?th your head in the clouds.

The first thing you have t? do, as if ?ou actually wer? a mountain clim?er, is to get organized. Instead of climbing gear, however, you m?st organize your thoug?ts. There are some ?teps you should take before you begin. Once you've gone through the follo?ing list, you will be ready to actually beg?n writing your e-book.

Beginning Steps to Writ?ng an e-book

First, figure out ?our e-book'? working title. Jot d?wn a few different titles, and eventually, you'll find that one that will grow on you. T?tles help you to focus your writing on your topic; th?y guid? you in anticipating and answer?ng your reade?'s queries. Many non-fiction b?oks also have s?btitles. Aim for clarity in your titles, but cleverness al?ays helps to s?ll books, as long as it's n?t too ?ute. For example, Rem?dies for Insomnia: twent? different wa?s to count sheep. Or: Get off that couc?: fifteen exerc?se plans to whip you into shape.

Next, write out a thesis state?ent. Your thesis is ? sentenc? ?r two stating exactly ?hat pr?blem you are addressing and ho? ?our b?ok will ?olve that problem. All chapters spring forth from yo?r thesis statement. Once you've got your t?esis statement fine-tuned, you've built yo?r foundation. From that foundation, y?ur b?ok w?ll grow, chapter by chapter.

Your thesis will kee? y?u focused while you write your e-book. Remember: all chapt?rs m?st support ?our thesis statement. If they don't, they don't belong in your book. For example, your thesis statement could read: We've all experienced in?omnia at times in o?r lives, but ther? are twenty proven techniques ?nd methods to give yo? back a good night's sleep.

Once ?ou have ?our thesis, before yo? start to write, ?ake sure ther? ?s a go?d reason t? w?ite ?our book. As? yourself some questions:

* Do?s your b?ok pr?sent useful information and is that information currently relevant?

* W?ll ?ou book po?itively affect the liv?s of your readers?

* Is your book d?namic and will it kee? the reade?'s attention?

* Does you book answer questions that are meaningful and significant?

If you can ?nswer yes to these questions, ?ou can f?el confident about the ?otential of your e-book.

Another i?portant step ?s to figure ?ut who your target audience is. It is t?is group of pe?ple yo? will be writing to, and this group will dictate many elements of your book, s?ch a? style, tone, diction, and even length. Figure out the ?ge range of y?ur r?aders, their general gender, what they are most interested in, and even the socio-economic group they primarily ?ome from. Are they peo?le who read fash?on magazines o? book review?? Do they write l?tters in longhand ?r spend hours ev?ry day online. The mor? you
can pin down your target audience, the easier it will be t? w?ite your book fo? them.

Next, mak? ? list of the reasons you are writing your e-book. Do you want to promote ?our business? Do you ?ant to bring quality traffic to y?ur website? Do you w?nt to enhance your reputation?

Then write down ?our goals in ter?s of pu?lishing. Do you want to sell ?t as a product on your we?site, o? do you want to ?ffer it ?s ? free gift for fill?ng o?t a survey or for ordering a product? Do yo? want t? use the chapt?rs to create an e-course, or use your e-b?ok to attract affiliates around th? world? The mo?e you know upfront, the ea?ier the actual writing will be.

Decide ?n the f?rmat of your chapters. In non-fiction, ke?p the format from chapter to c?apter fairly ?onsistent. Perha?s yo? plan to u?e an introduction t? your chapter topic, and then divide it int? four s?bhead topics. Or you may plan to divide it into fiv? parts, each one beginning with a relevant anecdote.

How to make yo?r e-b?ok "user friendly"

You must figure out ho? to ?eep your writ?ng engaging. Often anecdotes, testimonials, little stories, photos, gra?hs, advice, ?nd tips will ke?p th? reade? turning th? pages. Sidebars a?e useful for quick, a?cessible information, and they break up the density of the page.

Write with ? casual, conv?rsational tone rathe? than a formal tone such as te?tbook diction. Readers will respond to the feeling that you ar? having a conversation with them. Break up the length and structure of ?our sentences s? ?ou don’t hypnotize your reader? into sle?p. Sentences that ?re all t?e same length and structure tend to be a good a?d for insomnia!

Good writing take? practice. It takes lots ?nd lot? of practice. Make a sched?le t? ?rite at least a page ? day. Read bo?ks and magazin?s about the process of writing, and j?t down tip? that j?mp out at you. The art of writing ?s a lifetime process; th? more yo? write (and read), the b?tter y?ur writing will become. The bette? you? wr?ting becomes, the bigger your s?les figures.

In an e-book th?t is read on th? screen, be ?ware that you ?ust gi?e your reader's ey? ? break. You can do this by utilizing white space. In art classes, whit? space is usually r?ferred to as "negativ? space. Your Reader's eyes need to rest in the cool white oases
you created on yo?r page. If your page is t?o dense, yo?r ?eader will quit out ?f it as soon ?s th?ir eyes begin to tear.

Make use ?f lists, both bulleted and numbered. This makes your information e?sy t? abso?b, ?nd give? the reader ? mental bre?k f?om dissect?ng y?ur paragraphs one after the other.

Finally, decide ?n an easy-to-read design. Find a font that's e?sy on the eyes, and st?ck to that font family. Using d?zens of fonts will only tire ?our r?aders out before they'?e gotten ?ast your introduction. U?e at least one and a half line spacing, and text large enough t? be read easily on the s?reen, b?t small en?ugh so that the whole page ?an b? seen on a comput?r screen. You will have to experiment with this to find the right combination.

Of course, don't forget to run a spell and grammar che?k. You are judged by so?ething a? min?r as correct punctuation, s? don’t mes? up a great book by toss?ng out semicolons randomly, ?r str?nging sentences together wit? commas. (By the way, that's called a "comma splice.")

Last of all; create an index and ? bibl?ography. That's it! You've written a book! Now all you have to do is publish your ?-book online, and wait for downlo?d request from your we?site visitors.
